May 15 That’s when the new advertising rules from the Texas Real Estate Commission go into effect. Part of the new rules covers team names. What’s a team name? It’s a name used by one or more license holders sponsored by or associated with the same broker that is not the broker’s name or the broker’s assumed business name. Your team name must end with the words team or group. Your team name cannot contain terms that imply that the team is offering brokerage services independent of the broker. Some prohibited terms are realty, brokerage, company, and associates. The terms real estate and properties are acceptable as part of your team name as long as the team name ends with the terms team or group. Remember: Any ads with your team name must still contain the name of your broker. And before you use your team name in an ad, your broker must register the team name with TREC. Get lots more information about the new advertising rules, including sample ads, in the January/February Texas REALTOR® magazine. Find it at texasrealestate.com/magazine.
