100 thoughts on “Andrew Yang Explains Why Digital Data Is Personal Property | NBC News Now

  1. Yang’s message needs to get out more. He’s the only candidate who can bring prosperity back to America. We are in a long term race against China and we’re losing right now. Without reform to our GDP obsessed system China will be the big winner this century. The establishment democrats acts like the house isn’t on fire. This is a losing strategy…guaranteed the Vegas odds will back that up. Yang is the only candidate who can attack Trump from the outside. This is a winning strategy.

  2. YANG makes me feel a funny tingle inside… what’s that called? Oh Right!!! -Hope In Politics & The Future!!!

  3. This would go over the heads of many older politicians. Y'all remember the politician that asked a Google CEO questions about his iphone? These guys think cookies on a browser are something you can bake.

  4. Yang doesn't think that stealing our information is wrong … he just wants to be paid for it. Me personally, I'd rather keep my information private and just earn my own money the traditional way.

  5. life can't be all about trying to get money. you can hoard up all your money like jeffrey epstein but that will get you no where. you have to get value outside of the monetary system.
money doesn't stop the crime from happening. criminals spend their days and nights scheming of ways to gain money. money is the corrupting force in society. you can pay people to do crimes. they will put their morals aside and throw their good behaviors to the wind for the right amount of money. that's not the right message to be sending people. that's not a message of strength of character – that's a message that anyone-can-be-bought, and justice-is-for-sale. that's the message criminals want to hear. as long as that attitude is not challenged by society, then crimes won't go away. as long as money is the intermediary force between society and criminals, then crime is going to stay. crime bottom-feeds off the money system.

  6. its horrible, the data that corporations sell and trade with each other would be federal crime if the data was on paper and not digital.

  7. ok again…YOU POSTED THE NEWS for 10/13 twice and missing 10/14 and today is 10/15…not sure if your 15 year old admin can read a calendar, upload videos or keep track of what they are posting???? Come on…YOU'RE NBC??? This looks so pathetic!

  8. It's not just the consumers data, it's also the workers data.
Machine learning generates all the behavior you need from a machine, no one needs to write it, all you need is TRAINING DATA.
All work being done right now by humans is recorded as TRAINING DATA for machine learning to learn how to replace them.

  9. Yang is the only candidate who is up to date with the times. Only one proposing this solution to. Our data, so we should get a cut of it.

  10. I know two uses of our data, advertising and product creation.. and government use of predictions in trend forecasting and trend manipulation

  11. This is how you can tell Andrew Yang actually knows what he's talking about when it comes to technology, unlike the other candidates. He understands how to use the term "MONETIZING" in the context of tech companies making money off users of their services/advertising, etc. It's a term we use in big tech all the time. The first step to fixing a problem is understanding it. He is the only candidate that has a deep understanding how the tech industry operates. #yang2020 #yanggang

  12. He has my vote and many others. He is what our country needs to recover from years of mismanagement and corruption of our government.

  13. IMPORTANT: If you want to vote Yang in 2020, you NEED to vote for him in the democratic primaries. That's the only way he's going to get on the ticket.

In some states that even means registering as a democrat in order to participate. If you don't identify as dem, hopefully you'll be ok with it since it's a means to an end and you can always change later. Look up the rules in your state so you don't miss any deadlines! Also, make sure that you're registered to vote!!

  14. When you fill out a form or register on any website, exercise your rights and concerns with the company you're starting a relationship with. Businesses has relations

  15. If (this) information were to be made available to certain people before public has access, they could use it to trade the stock and make money out of it.

  16. @NBC News FIX THE SUBTITLES!! The subtitles of this video are from another news story. As usual NBC is spreading misleading content about Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang. There is no excuse for such insufficient quality in video editing. It's intolerable that NBC News meddles with the elections, as well as the perception of reality in general.

  17. Andrew Yang needs to explain more in detail for the conservative people. He has good ideas and looking into the future of America as an advanced technological nation. being futuristic is the only way we emerge from this slum we are in. A developed society is the solution to all our current problems.

  18. Yang, you can not preach the same old picture of the mountain walk around a little you might see different views of the mountain. This is not the Bible you read over and over again, write your own you got everything in your head. God give you everything you need, this might not be much, are you ready?. All the Laotian organization in the United States. I can get Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and much more. We do need your leadership to help our company moving forward, right now we have only five employees. I am the only Asian but this company is like my family to me. I was a president of the Laotian Temples in the United States and know a lot of others also, I may not be much of help to you, but you still can count on one of your voters.

  19. I am proud of Andrew Yang and every step of the way for finding solutions and making sure everyone is not excluded. Kinda like a dad with his kids and making sure they are well cared for and loved. America is better with Andrew Yang. Andrew Yang gave me faith in humanity. Lets make america think harder! I also like he is respectful and mindful. Andrew Yang isn't here for attacking anyone. Andrew Yang wants everyone to think higher and better.

  20. So I like the sentiment, but this is how the internet, and in turn the world functions. Most tech companies such as Google, make very little off of products. They make money from data. Most of their money comes from our data. And arguably, we do benefit. We have, for example, Google products, which covers most people's phones, search engine, youtube, the backbone of most of the internet, and mist other technological fronts. On top of that, they have to pay their employees, for their servers, property, and everything else. Then yes, there are a few rich people at the top, just like any other company. Now perhaps, you believe that the sale of our data is wrong and you are fully entitled to that belief, that said, you also have to realize the pros and the cons to any change. Putting forward changes to data collection will greatly impact our economy, many people will lose Jobs, products we all rely on could seize to exist, and production and technological advancements will slow down. The economy will adjust, though a full recovery would be doubtful. Many people will lose jobs, but most of them will find work elsewhere. And technology will still advance and be viable, it will just be a slower incline and will be more expensive and overall worse, but it will still be there and will get better. If dramatic change took place, we would have far more privacy, but just like anything, it would be at a cost. I am not saying, either way, is right or wrong. That is for society to decide, but there are always pros and cons to issues.

  21. I love it how Andrew Yang can the turn the tables around and make people see for themselves. That’s how he will get things done in Washington.

  22. *DONATE a dollar* Andrew Yang2020 President* *VOTE to make a difference* *$1000 a month to every American citizen is a game changer* Make America Think Harder

  23. I've been talking about this for years and most of the people I talked to did not get it… until now Andrew Yang makes it his running platform with Freedom Dividend.

  24. "Andrew Yang Explains Why Digital Data Is Personal Property."

No, he did not. Not in this video, at least.

He articulated his vision for how for-profit entities and citizens may be able to better interact in the context of the latter's data; the title is misleading.

  25. Register to vote for him in the primaries. Convince your friends and family who have never voted before to come out and vote. #yanggang it's not left, it's not right, it's forward.

  26. Who else is talking about this? We are!

PrivacyCo-op.com was established to help you value your rights. It's easy, and we are already doing it! With our tools and rules, you can make them stop using your info for secondary profits (what Mr. Yang is addressing here), and with our combined power as a co-op, we can make them pay.

Learn more at http://privacyco-op.com and see our own TED talk on the subject here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL34jezuDMk

  27. What a smart guy. No other candidate is talking about giving the people their fair share of our data check. My data is personal property. Don’t take it without permission.

  28. If you're not the customer you're the product. There's a reason why if you look at a toaster on bed bath & beyond you start seeing ads for said toaster on every web page right after.

  29. You know , I was hoping he was going to condemn data gathering as a threat to our liberties but thats not what this was.
All this would do is shift some money around , if they were forced to pay you up front , they will get it back somewhere else down the line , just like with everything else.
This would just be another shell game.

  30. This brother just loves Andrew yang and knows beyond the shadow of a doubt he will be the next president of the United States Americans eye's is starting to open up dems do the smart thing and make this man our nominee yang 2020 humanity first

  31. On our latest #podcast we discussed, at length, #andrewyangs run for presidency, #berniesanders chances, separating trump supporters from their beliefs and much more!
    Check us out here:

  32. He's the first truly 21st century candidate. A lot of the other candidates are too entrenched in a cold war 1990's mindset.
